 Notice how the City of Buellton is slowing getting rid of single-family housing?  The city is in bed with developers to push this socialist agenda.  They want to force affordable housing.  Look at the past, current and future development deals for high-rise apartments.

Buellton Business Priveledge

We all want our local businesses to do well, especially during this fake COVID shutdown.  But, why is it that certain restaurants are allowed to take over pedestrian sidewalks and City owned parking spaces with their customer seating?

The City of Buellton might want to look at the liability of this practice.  So, let's say that a person eating at xxxx's falls while getting up after eating their meal.  Isn't the City of Buellton liable, since the person was now legally eating on City owned property?

Why should I pay for this as a tax payer?

Who gave this restaurant permission to "expand" their customer seating onto City owned property?

I never heard about it at a City council meeting.  Was this permission given behind closed doors?

Speak up and wake up people!  

Buellton, CA - Free overnight camping on city streets!

Buellton is now a "free - homeless car camping" city.  There are 3 known areas that are free to car campers.  1) Second Street, east of Ave of Flags.  2) Sycamore Drive at Oak Park.  3) The Park and Ride at the south end of Avenue of Flags.  Overnight camping is good, but you may want to move on before the early sheriff shift change.

There may be feces and garbage, but no needles yet.  What do want for free?

You may also be able to pick up any drugs you may need at these locations.  Fifth-wheel and motor home campers can also drain gray water at these locations in the storm drains!  It's done all the time! 

Buellton, CA - Avenue of the Flags

Avenue of the Flags is very dangerous. Cars travel at speeds way over the posted limit of 35 MPH. Some are coming in the north and south ends of town at 55 MPH (personal calibrated speed detector)! I have a report from last week of a family staying at the Flying Flags RV park , that were almost hit by a speeding car while crossing Ave of the Flags near the entrance to the park. 55 MPH! That's not the first report. Numerous cars have almost been hit while leaving Olivera's Automotive, by cars coming in off of the freeway and not slowing through town. 55 MPH (personal calibrated speed detector)! You think you are safe to pull out because the car is far away. That would usually appear safe, until you realize (too late) that they're moving at 55 miles per hour! The City of Buellton will do nothing about adding police/sheriff radar equipped units until someone dies from a speeding car. We hope it isn't you or one of your relatives.

Another dangerous spot is the south-east freeway off ramp at Highway 246. We have so many reports of pedestrians crossing the crosswalk (on a green walk light) and the cars coming up to 246 on the off ramp don't stop to turn east on 246. They do not stop! And they have a red light! They don't wait for on-coming vehicles either! I guess the City is too busy trying to wine-and-dine developers to care about the safety of the residents.

Santa Ynez River clean up homeless encampments - Santa Ynez Valley - Lompc Valley

A complete $500,000 failure.

Of course, all of the media pats officials on the back.  But, the truth is after spending $500,000 on the cleanup and removal of homeless camps, those homeless people are back.  The river bottom "Drug Lords" who pretty much run those homeless camps are back doing their business. They are back roaming the streets of Lompoc and Buellton.  We have reports of local residents in Lompoc, Buellton and tourists visiting the Flying Flags RV Park being harassed by these "Santa Ynez River Rats".  What a waste of tax payer dollars.  Where is the law enforcement?

City of Buellton Gives Special Dispensation to Car Lots

Why is it that the City of Buellton allows these used car lots on Avenue of the Flags to park their vehicles for sale on side walks or walking areas?

Also, we will be posting video on YouTube of these car sellers dumping their antifreeze and transmission fluids into the curb gutters.  Isn't that a serious crime?

This is an update with no solutions as of February - 2018.

Drivers coming off of the freeway onto Ave of the Flags are still traveling at speeds exceeding 55 mph!  Also, on HWY 246.

The State of California requires  cities to have a "tracking survey" done before the city can enforce speed laws.  What?  Yes, that's correct.  So, the City of Buellton needs to be encouraged to get off their asses and have a "tracking survey" done for radar enforcement on Avenue of the Flags and Highway 246.

Also, drivers continue to blow through stop signs on the side streets that feed 246 and Avenue of the Flags.  Where is the motor vehicle law enforcement?  

Let's get it done before some innocent kids get killed!

2016 an election year.  Embrace the moment.  Two of the candidates up for election for Santa Barbara County Supervisor, Hartmann and Porter are making the rounds through the neighborhoods (or some of their lackey followers) distributing their election propaganda.  Cherish the moment, because this is probably the ONLY time you will meet them face-to-face.  The ONLY time, because THEY WANT YOUR VOTE.  THAT'S ALL THEY WANT!  AFTER THAT, THEY DON'T GIVE A SHIT ABOUT YOU!

A note to all bike bicycle race riders:  Santa Ynez Valley Classic, Santa Ynez Valley Riding Club, Amgen Tour, Group Rides.  First of all... I'm a rider and I'm embarrassed!  I was out driving and encountered this this morning.  A majority of you are rude, aggressive and arrogant.  Single file!  Don't take up BOTH sides of the road!  It's taken a lot of work to get the community to accept the races.  It's not just a few of you that give the rest of us bad press, it's a majority of you.    To all motor vehicle drivers... if you see us being AH riders... call 911 and report us.

Buellton, CA - California Department of Fish and Game

An alert out to the California Department of Fish and Game. 

  One or two males have been spotted using binoculars shooting shotguns in the Santa Ynez River bottom at ducks and quail.  Out of season.  This is a clear act of wildlife poaching.  This has been happening numerous times in the early mornings and early evenings.  The location is Avenue of the Flags bridge on the Santa Ynez River.  They have been spotted up to ½ mile, east and west of the bridge.  DFG, get to work!

Buellton, CA - City Council - Chamber of Commerce

First of all, thanks for reading and sending in comments.  

This post is regarding the flyer that has been distributed around the community.  I (and many others) find this sort of propaganda and hate mongering offensive.  You folks are supposed to work for the people not promote a personal hate campaign! 

We take issue with "The Committee to Support Dale, Preston & Wildroe for Council 2014" flyer.

  "The City Council gave away $700,000+ of your money".  If you are such good public servants, why didn't YOU alert WE the PEOPLE that this was going on?

"It is NO coincidence that three Chamber board members are running for City Council".  If qualified, why can't the "three Chamber board members" run for City Council?

Voters have a choice?  Really?

"Vibrant Downtown".  Where, specifically, is "Downtown".  Buellton is only a few blocks large.  Where is "Downtown"?  Ample parking for what?  Restrooms?  Who's going to clean them?  How much is that going to cost?  Maybe they blocked it because it's a bad investment.

"Walking/Bike Trail System".  "Would serve both as recreation and safe alternative transportation".  Why invest in this?  There are plenty of local areas for walking and bike riding.  Where would this system go?  How can building such a "system" cover the whole city?  How do the words "safe" and "alternative"  enter into this?  Is currently traveling by walking or bike unsafe?  It could be unsafe if you are talking about the intersection of HWY 246 and Industrial Way, when most drivers coming north on Industrial Way could blow a blood alcohol level of .30%!

"New Library/Community Resource Center".  Why do we need to invest in a "New Library"?  What's wrong with the current one?  It's never crowded.  The ladies that work there are extremely kind and qualified.  What the hell is a "Community Resource Center"?  A welfare office?  This is would be a total waste of funds!

"Buellton Community Pool".  This is the stupidest suggestion on this flyer!  People visiting our valley have a pool at Flying Flags park.  There's also the YMCA.  How much do you plan on charging for use of this pool?  Who is going to pay for it's maintenance?  If you suggest that this pool would be free, you would have people who live in the river bottom bathing in it.  Get real!

The City was better off before Cityhood came along.  The charm of the city is because of how small and quaint it is.  Why try and make it like all the other large cities in this state that have nothing but problems?  Quit trying to promote some phony culture.  Yes, a "Digital Billboard" is a stupid idea.    It seems to us, that all you people want to do is spend precious money on stupid things that residents DON'T WANT!  The expensive "brick walk" job at 246 and Avenue of The Flags was a total waste of precious money.  Look at it now!  Those bricks are laden with motor oil and everything else.  What purpose did that serve?  That was an irresponsible waste of money.  How about the $1Mil "Park and Ride".  Half of the lights don't work and it has become a late-night drug sale location.   How about offering an alternative to Albertsons?  That store sucks!  Many locals make the drive to Lompoc to shop there.  Why do we need a Tractor Supply?  We already have a Farm Supply!  There must have been some big developer money involved in that deal.  The things you people talk about wanting to do, will end up keeping people away from the city!

Norman Wicks - Norman Wicks Jr - Living in Buellton, CA

Norman Wicks ( aka normwicks) and his son Norman Wicks Jr., bring their charade to Buellton.  They have been living across from the McDonald's restaurant on 337 McMurray Road for over two weeks.  They like to set people and law enforcement officers up.  Once they attract their victims, they video record the incident and post selected portions on YouTube.  They tell everyone they are "handicapped".  Old man Wicks has slipped up.  In several of their YouTube videos, Norman Wicks senior can be seen walking through their motor home without the use of a wheelchair or crutches.  Photos are forthcoming that will show the two of them standing and walking around in between their van and motor home, using the opened, back doors of the van to try and block the view.  I'm also looking into the claim the Wickses make about having two "service dogs".  The dogs have been in public without proper handling and equipment. 

The Wickses are phoneys and opportunists.  They are bad actors abusing the system.

To sneak up on the subject of this column -- the troubling, often disingenuous myth of the poster child -- I must first reintroduce you to the Wicks family, father and son.
Norman Wicks Sr. and his 23-year-old son are an uncomfortable pair. They live in the back of a '76 Chevy pickup and make a raucous living salvaging old computers. They aren't popular with the Portland police. They don't always play by the rules.
When I wrote about the Wickses' latest adventures last month, several callers suggested I take a closer look at the dirt beneath their fingernails. The restraining orders. The eviction notices. Their problems with women.
No poster children, these, I was told.
No kidding. They aren't cleanshaven. They don't have a clean slate. And for some purists, that justifies whatever ashes are heaped upon their heads.
There's a certain justice, I guess, and considerable applause from the pit, when bad things happen to bad eggs.
Our justice system was built, long ago, on the notion that we would punish people based on their unlawful conduct. The degree and severity of punishment would depend on the nature and extent of that unlawful conduct.
As we have become increasingly comfortable with extreme solutions to aberrant problems, however, the scales of blind justice are frequently tilted by fear and loathing.
Justin Thorp is one example. When the 16-year-old Thorp was sentenced, under Measure 11, to 75 months in prison for having sex initiated by his 13-year-old girlfriend, four of the nine judges on the Oregon Court of Appeals argued that the penalty was too excessive.
Immediately, two district attorneys -- Josh Marquis in Astoria and Terry Gustafson in Oregon City -- lunged forward in letters to The Oregonian to remind us that Thorp is no innocent, no star-crossed Romeo, no poster child. Much of the evidence they introduced would never have been ruled admissible in court.
Their reaction was understandable. They are prosecutors. But the vehemence of their rebuttal was a compelling argument that prosecutors shouldn't be the final arbiters in a courtroom, a role they so often serve under Measure 11.
Like Thorp, the Wickses are damaged goods. You'd expect any less from a couple of guys living in a truck? For the record, Wicks Sr. has seven felony convictions for burglary, theft and criminal mischief, the most recent in 1991. When they've been invited into homes on several occasions, eviction notices were required to get them out.
But as the Wickses' brush with Officer James Dakin last October made clear, you don't always get the whole story from police reports and the court record. If they are frequently in the thick of a dispute, Norman Wicks and his son insist they simply refuse to play the victim. If they show their teeth, it's because they swim with sharks.
"My whole life has been torment and pain," said the father, who has been badly abused and knows it. "I let people try to victimize me because now I can do something about it. I fight back. When they try to victimize us, we victimize them, instead."
Noble sentiments, those? Hardly . . . just the mirror image of the attitude many prosecutors and prison boosters bring to the dock.
The Multnomah County DA's office has, to its credit, abandoned its effort to prosecute the Wickses for tape-recording their October clash with police.
But I doubt this will be the last we hear of the pair. The Wickses are opportunists, square pegs, survivors who don't like being backed into a corner. They are a volatile mix of good intentions and bad instincts (or is it the other way around?)
They aren't children. They don't fit on a poster. Butter melts in their mouths. They aren't a good argument, the ideal Hollywood casting, for anything other than the fact that the issues we're still wrestling with in the realm of criminal justice are diabolically complex.
That the Wickses may make us uncomfortable shouldn't be a factor, much less the dominant factor, when the cops or DAs come courting.

Figueroa Mountain Brewing Co. - Noise Polution

I hear complaints are being filed regarding excessive noise from the Figueroa Mountain Brewing Co. , located at 45 Industrial Way, Buellton, CA  93427.

I'm not surprised.  I live 1/2 mile away (Google Earth) and the music bothers me.  There are noise restrictions within the City of Buellton code and the noise levels measured at my location are well above those limits.

The Saturday, Sunday afternoon music is too loud.  We should not have to hear it while trying to spend a quiet afternoon in our backyards, or inside with the doors or windows open.

Join me and let's eliminate it!

Santa Ynez Valley News Paper - "Driving on sunshine"

The paper recently ran a front page story regarding the second annual "Green Business - Energy Efficient Forum", advocating the advantages of electric and hybrid vehicles.  It's funny how the "manager" of the Community Environmental Council ONLY states one side of the "green" idea.  I could throw out my credentials and back it with experience, but what's real basic about this topic is that solar power, photo voltaic power, electric/hybrid cars is that the technology is NOT EFFICIENT!  It takes more energy to make all of these products than what they save.  But, the politicians and the "green" know-it-alls are going to try to shove these products and ideas down our not-so-gullible throats!  It's all part of the "carbon footprint" agenda.  Based around a new world order and total population control.  I refuse to let them tell me what's good for me and my family.  The paper should be ashamed of themselves for not allowing any rebuttal to the story.        

Buellton, CA - Wasteful Spending - More Expensive Sidewalks - Fewer Teachers

More wasteful spending on useless, expensive, brick walkways by the city of Buellton.  So they're laying off teachers, while they spend massive amounts of money on expensive , brick crosswalks and sidewalks.  Our hard-earned tax dollars being spent on this crap!

Crossroads Center At The Village - Buellton, CA

The "Crossroads Center At The Village" development is planned for go ahead.  With Buellton businesses struggling in existing commercial spaces, let alone the vacant commercial spaces, doesn't it make sense that these cities build, build, develop, build, develop?  The economy cannot support another "strip mall".  Buellton does not need another "mini mall".  The ones we have now are over 50% vacant.  City management does NOT care if the new businesses are successful.  All they care about is filling up the blank real estate.  Residents of Buellton need to think about whether or not they want to end up like some of their neighboring cities, with the increased crime and reduced quality of life because of the over-development.  City council members need to quit using every little piece of vacant land for development projects for the purpose of patting themselves on the back.  They call it "accomplishments and growth".   I call it a cancer.
